Vibration Damping

Vibration severity cannot always be adequately controlled by reducing causes such as unbalance, misalignment etc. The safety of structures and machines can be compromised especially where there is resonance. Health and safety of people can be affected where the vibration is transmitted to air as noise.

There are many applications where the vibration energy can be reduced by damping. Where the vibration occurs at a specific frequency or frequency range a combination of mass spring and damping elements can be combined to produce a tuned damper.
Tuned dampers have application in the control of vibration including in:-
•    Propeller aircraft,
•    Steel bridges
•    power  transmission cables
•    Railway wheels and rails,

Schrey & Veit have many years’ experience in the design and manufacture of tuned dampers with a major focus on noise reduction in railways.
